Silver King Childcare Centre
We are a rights-based early learning community rooted in kinship.
Children, families, Educators, and community members learn with and from one another in relationships of care, reciprocity, and respect. Every person’s voice, identity, and agency are honoured as we build a shared sense of belonging and shared responsibility to Land and each other.

A childcare centre licensed for 24 spaces.
Located on the unceded homelands of the Sinixt People, Silver King Childcare Centre is a licensed early learning program rooted in relationship, respect, and a strong image of the child. Since opening in September 2021, we have become a thriving learning community for infants, toddlers, young children, their families, and the educators who care for them.
Silver King Childcare Centre does not keep a regular waitlist for childcare spaces. We do give priority placement to Selkirk student families. If you are enrolled at Selkirk College and in need of childcare please send an email to hayleyr@kootenaykids.ca to find out about any upcoming availability.
We offer care for:
- 16 infants and toddlers, across two nurturing and thoughtfully designed classrooms
- 8 children aged 3–5 years, within our multi-age program
Our indoor and outdoor environments are intentionally created with natural light, open sightlines, and flexible spaces that honour children’s curiosity, competence, and need for movement. Materials and experiences are designed to support children’s physical, emotional, cognitive, creative, and social development.
Silver King Childcare Centre’s approach is guided by:
- BC’s Early Learning Framework
- The Early Childhood Pedagogy Network (ECPN)
- Magda Gerber–inspired respectful care practices
- The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
- Common Worlds relational and land-based perspectives
We are proud to work alongside community Elders, knowledge holders, and local partners to weave Indigenous knowledges, drumming, stories, and Land connection into our daily curriculum. We strive to be an inclusive and welcoming space where every child, family, and educator is seen, valued, and supported.
Families can find detailed information about Silver King Childcare Centre’s policies, rhythms, and expectations in the Parent Handbook .
The Affordable Childcare Benefit may help offset childcare costs for eligible families. We are a $10/day site.
Kootenay Kids Society offers families the convenience of paying daycare fees through e-transfer.
